Landscapes Forests, near the visible by the National Forest Inventory (IFN). A collective work under the direction of Claude Vidal. Nearly 200 color illustrations. 24 x 30, 200 pages.
A real book of art. The infrared colour aerial photographs of forests in France taken by the National Forest Inventory (IFN) are published here for the very first time. Amazingly, despite the graphic quality of these photographs, on a par with the best works of art, these documents have never been presented to the public before. Seen from above, French forests reveal undreamt-of diversity of colours and shapes, impossible to perceive at ground level, from where you can’t see the trees for the forest. The geological diversity, the range of species and the effects of the changing seasons all come together to create an infinitely hued, ever changing palette.
|A book of knowledge. FOREST LANDSCAPES, beyond what meets the eye is also a book of knowledge, for the tremendous variety of the marks left by the interaction between man and nature provide in-depth understanding of the French forests. Clearly explained in the book, this knowledge enriches our appreciation of French forests.|
|It describes the various aspects of the forest, from the densest massif to alignments, bocage or scattered trees. It shows the place of the forest in the landscapes of France and the personality of each territory.
Vast uninterrupted massifs in the East and the South-Ouest, well ordered leafy forests in Normandy or in the Parisian basin, thin bands in the high mountains.
|This book, based on systematic aerial photographs, gives us an at the same time original and revealing reading: the image of our forest inheritance seen from the sky. Unexpected approach, because the man usually sees himself under the canopy. Instructive approach, because it reveals in a striking way the structure and the state of our forests, the effect of the actions or the great and bad events marking them. When the austere request of the scientific observation lets escape the beauty from an unforeseen image|
FOREST LANDSCAPES has been presented during the XII World Forestry Congress in Quebec (Canada). It was a great success. In addition, an exhibition of IFN photographs is running in France since September 2003 and until September 2004.
